Arsenal Could Face Dilemma as Nick Pope’s Injury Opens Door for Aaron Ramsdale to Newcastle United, Says Ben Foster
Former goalkeeper Ben Foster has expressed his belief that Nick Pope’s shoulder injury could have consequences for Arsenal. Foster suggests that Aaron Ramsdale, who has lost his place at Arsenal to David Raya, may push for a move to Newcastle United.
Pope is expected to be sidelined until April after dislocating his shoulder in Saturday evening’s victory over Manchester United. This has led Newcastle United to search for a new goalkeeper until the end of the season. They have been linked with Ramsdale, although Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has shut down the prospect of Ramsdale leaving.
Foster believes that Ramsdale would be eager to move to Newcastle and resume playing regular football. However, he acknowledges the potential friction if Arsenal blocks the deal, as they would not want to strengthen one of their rivals.
Ramsdale’s Opportunity
Foster highlights the potential benefits for Ramsdale if he moves to Newcastle. It would provide him with a chance to play Premier League football and potentially secure his place in the England squad for the Euros. However, Foster acknowledges that Arsenal may not want to strengthen Newcastle and this could lead to a falling out.
Foster also dismisses suggestions that Manchester United might consider signing Ramsdale to replace Andre Onana, stating that Manchester United cannot afford to change their goalkeeper.
