Liverpool Target Patrick Dorgu Responds to Transfer Interest
Liverpool’s pursuit of young talent continues as they keep tabs on Lecce star Patrick Dorgu. The left-back, who helped Lecce win the Primavera league last season, has become one of the most sought-after young players in Serie A. While Dorgu has distanced himself from the transfer speculation, he admits that it’s flattering to be linked to some of Europe’s top clubs.
Dorgu, 19, has caught the attention of Liverpool, AC Milan, and Barcelona, with scouts from these clubs reportedly watching him closely throughout the season. However, the Danish U21 international is tied into a contract with Lecce until 2027, meaning any potential move will require a substantial fee. Lecce is prepared for a bidding war in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite the constant rumors surrounding his future, Dorgu remains focused on his current club. Lecce currently sits 13th in the Serie A table, and Dorgu wants to concentrate on performing well for his team. In an interview with Danish publication Tipsbladet, he said, “I am in Lecce and I have to focus on the season and on myself. It’s great to hear that people look at me and talk about me, but I don’t have to think too much about it because I play in Lecce.”
The interest shown by Liverpool, Milan, and Barcelona serves as motivation for Dorgu to continue performing at a high level. He sees it as an opportunity to push himself further and reach his full potential. “It is of course a good motivation for me that there are teams looking at me,” he said. “It makes me work harder so I can reach the highest possible level. I will continue the hard work and then we will have to see what happens in the future.”
Liverpool currently has Andy Robertson and Konstantinos Tsimikas as their recognized left-backs, with Joe Gomez providing cover when needed. Robertson recently returned from a shoulder injury and made appearances against Norwich and Arsenal. However, the club’s interest in Dorgu suggests that they are looking to strengthen their defensive options for the future.
As Liverpool’s pursuit of young talent continues, it remains to be seen if they will make a move for Dorgu in the upcoming transfer window. The left-back’s impressive performances have caught the attention of top clubs, but Lecce’s long-term contract and expected high asking price may complicate any potential deal. For now, Dorgu remains focused on his current club and aims to continue his development on the pitch.
