Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony and former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan have expressed opposing views on the eight-month ban handed to Brentford striker Ivan Toney by the Football Association (FA). Toney was charged with 262 breaches of the FA’s betting rules between February 2017 and January 2021, with the FA withdrawing 30 of the breaches. Toney admitted to the remaining 232 breaches and was banned until January 16, 2024, and fined £50,000. MacAnthony revealed that he was not concerned about Toney’s ban affecting his former club’s sell-on fee, while Jordan supported the FA’s zero-tolerance approach and said significant consequences were necessary to maintain the integrity of the game.
