Chelsea Star Conor Gallagher Fails to Convince Owner Todd Boehly
Conor Gallagher’s future at Chelsea hangs in the balance as owner Todd Boehly has yet to offer him a new contract. Despite an impressive performance in Chelsea’s 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace, Gallagher’s long-term suitability to the club and his wage demands have raised concerns for Boehly.
Gallagher’s outstanding display on Sunday, which included two goals, caught the attention of Mauricio Pochettino, who described him as “priceless” in his post-match press conference. Pochettino’s praise reflects his opposition to the club’s plan to sell Gallagher, as he believes the midfielder is a valuable asset.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who is an academy product, has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract. If Chelsea were to sell him, they would make a significant profit. However, Gallagher has expressed his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge, but Boehly seems inclined to cash in on the talented youngster.
According to the Daily Mail, Boehly has two main concerns regarding Gallagher’s future at Chelsea. Firstly, there are doubts about his long-term suitability to a club with ambitions of winning the Premier League. Despite Gallagher’s impressive performances this season, Chelsea finds themselves in 10th place, leading Boehly to question whether Gallagher would be good enough for a team aiming for the top.
Secondly, Boehly is reluctant to break the club’s wage structure. Gallagher currently earns around £70,000-a-week and hoped to nearly triple his salary with a new contract. However, Chelsea has a wage limit of approximately £150,000-a-week for the majority of their squad, and they do not consider Gallagher to be in the same bracket as Reece James, who they were willing to break their structure for.
The uncertainty surrounding Gallagher’s future at Chelsea raises questions about the club’s long-term plans. Will they prioritize immediate success or invest in promising young talents like Gallagher? Only time will tell.
