Dan Ashworth’s Decision on Move to Manchester United
Dan Ashworth, the current Sporting Director of Newcastle United, has made the decision to leave the club and join Manchester United. The 52-year-old joined Newcastle after the club was bought out by Saudi Arabia-backed investors in 2022. However, Ashworth has been identified by INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe as the ideal candidate to become Manchester United’s first-ever Sporting Director.
Despite Newcastle’s efforts to convince Ashworth to stay, he has an existing relationship with Sir Dave Brailsford, which has influenced his decision to move to Old Trafford. The Manchester Evening News has reported that Ashworth has accepted Manchester United’s offer and will be joining the Red Devils.
Manchester United is reportedly confident in appointing Ashworth and has not considered any other candidates for the role. However, Ashworth will have to serve a significant period of gardening leave before officially taking up his position at Old Trafford. This is similar to Omar Berrada, who will be joining Manchester United from Manchester City as the club’s new CEO.
The Premier League recently ratified Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3 billion investment in Manchester United, and the deal is now awaiting FA approval. With Ashworth’s appointment, it is expected that a head of recruitment will follow suit. There may also be changes within the club’s management structure, with John Murtough, United’s head of football, potentially being moved to an administrative role or even leaving the club entirely.
As Manchester United prepares for these changes, fans eagerly await the official confirmation of Dan Ashworth’s appointment as Sporting Director. With his experience and expertise, Ashworth is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of the club.
