Christopher Nkunku vows to ‘come back stronger’ after Chelsea injury setback
Chelsea summer signing Christopher Nkunku says he is ‘so disappointed’ to miss the start of the new Premier League season but has vowed to ‘come back stronger’ following his injury setback.
The west London club confirmed last week that Nkunku would be sidelined for an ‘extended’ period after undergoing surgery on his injured knee.
Nkunku, who completed a £52m move from RB Leipzig earlier in the summer, suffered the injury during Chelsea’s final pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund.
Nkunku’s Impressive Pre-Season Form
The 25-year-old has enjoyed an impressive start to Chelsea’s pre-season tour, scoring three goals in five games, but there are fears his injury could rule him out until December.
Chelsea drew 1-1 with Liverpool in their opening Premier League fixture on Sunday, with fellow summer signing Axel Disasi cancelling out Luis Diaz’s opener at Stamford Bridge.
Nkunku’s Vow To Come Back Stronger
‘As you can imagine, I’m so disappointed not to be able to be with my team-mates during the start of the season,’ he posted on Instagram.
‘It’s hard not to have been able to meet you guys at the Bridge. I will work hard to come back stronger. It’s only a matter of time.’
Nkunku’s Move To Chelsea
Chelsea brought Nkunku to west London as new manager Mauricio Pochettino’s first summer signing after the Frenchman scored 16 goals in 25 games for RB Leipzig last season.
Nkunku made his international debut for France last season but was ruled out of the Qatar World Cup because of a leg injury.
Chelsea’s Upcoming Fixtures
Chelsea continue their Premier League campaign on Sunday with a trip across London to face West Ham, who drew 1-1 with Bournemouth on the opening weekend.
Conclusion
Christopher Nkunku’s injury setback is a huge blow for Chelsea, but the Frenchman is determined to come back stronger and make an impact when he returns. With a number of upcoming fixtures, Chelsea will be hoping to get off to a good start and make a statement this season.
