Manchester United sweat on Lisandro Martinez fitness ahead of Brighton clash
Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of Lisandro Martinez ahead of Brighton’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.
The Argentine was forced off during the defeat to Arsenal 12 days ago with an injury to his foot. It was the same foot that Martinez injured at the back end of last season, with the issue keeping him out for seven weeks.
Martinez has come off in two of United’s first four Premier League matches this term and the defender is clearly still affected by the foot issue that he sustained last April.
Martinez meets up with Argentina squad
Despite his problems, Martinez met up with the Argentina squad in South America over the international break. However, despite training on and off, he didn’t participate in either of Argentina’s matches.
The Telegraph now say there’s significant doubt as to whether Martinez will feature against Brighton on Saturday. With Luke Shaw and Raphael Varane sidelined, that could mean a centre-back pairing of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire.
Amrabat could make debut
There’s better news elsewhere, as new boy Sofyan Amrabat could be set for his debut. The midfielder pulled out of international duty with Morocco last week but the issue was minor.
United have been dealt a number of injury blows already this season, with Shaw, Varane, Donny van de Beek, Paul Pogba, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard all missing out at various points.
United hit by injury issues
The Red Devils have had to contend with a number of injuries so far this season and it looks like they may have to do so again against Brighton. It remains to be seen if Martinez will be fit enough to play, but it looks unlikely.
