Luis Suarez hails ‘breathtaking beast’ Darwin Nunez after stunning goal for Liverpool
Liverpool legend Luis Suarez has labelled Darwin Nunez a ‘breathtaking beast’ after the forward scored a stunning goal in the Reds’ 2-1 win over Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup fourth round.
Cody Gakpo opened the scoring after half an hour before Justin Kluivert levelled the match in the second-half, but just a few minutes later Nunez fired home the winner with a sumptuous strike into the top right corner.
After a tricky first season at Anfield, the 24-year-old has been in scintillating form this campaign, registering seven goals and five assists in 14 games so far.
Suarez Praises Nunez
His efforts have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool legend Suarez full of praise for his Uruguay teammate. Replying to Nunez’s Instagram post about the win, Suarez said: ‘BREATHTAKING beast! Keep it up, goleador! #YNWA’
Comparisons between Nunez and Suarez were inevitable when the former signed from Benfica in a deal worth up to £85million, and after an underwhelming debut season where he only scored 15 goals and notably missed many big chances, some were quick to call him a flop.
Klopp Gets Best Out of Nunez
And while he does still does miss the odd sitter, it does seem that Jurgen Klopp has worked out how to get the best out of the 24-year-old.
‘It was an amazing goal,’ Gakpo said of his teammate’s strike. ‘Lots of quality in the action and it was a good pass from Trent [Alexander-Arnold]. Darwin showed good action to cut inside and it was a fantastic goal.
‘I think for the players it’s not really a surprise as we see his quality every time in training and in games as well. Now he’s just in a great run and we are there to support him and he is there too, supporting us to keep this fantastic run for him and for us as well.’
