Bayer Leverkusen Maintains Unbeaten Run in UEL with Late Goal

Bayer Leverkusen, the German football club, continued their unbeaten run across all competitions this season with a last-minute equalizer against Qarabag in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie. Xabi Alonso’s side, currently leading the Bundesliga with a 10-point advantage over Bayern Munich, has not lost a single match in their 35 outings, winning 30 and drawing five.

Qarabag, the Azerbaijani champions, took the lead in the 26th minute through Yassine Benzia. Their advantage was further extended when Juninho scored just before half-time. However, Leverkusen made a strong comeback in the second half. With five substitutions, including Florian Wirtz and Schik, introduced, they managed to pull back a goal in the 70th minute and ultimately equalized in stoppage time.

In other European matches, English Premier League clubs had mixed results. Brighton, participating in their first-ever European campaign, suffered a comprehensive four-goal defeat against Roma. Paulo Dybala, Romelu Lukaku, Gianluca Mancini, and Bryan Cristante all found the net for Daniele De Rossi’s side.

Liverpool, on the other hand, secured an impressive 5-1 victory against Sparta Prague. Darwin Nunez scored twice, while Alexis Mac Allister converted a penalty. Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlaialso also contributed to the scoreline. Unfortunately, Conor Bradley’s own goal prevented Liverpool from keeping a clean sheet. Moreover, Mohamed Salah’s goal was disallowed by VAR, and defender Ibrahima Konate had to be substituted due to a muscular injury.

In the Europa Conference League, Aston Villa faced Ajax in Amsterdam and both teams ended the match with ten men after red cards were shown to Ezri Konsa and Tristan Gooijer. The match ended in a scoreless draw.

Here are the results from the first leg matches of the Europa League last 16 and the Europa Conference League last 16:

Europa League Last 16 First Leg Results:
– Qarabag 2-2 Bayer Leverkusen
– Roma 4-0 Brighton
– Sparta Prague 1-5 Liverpool

Europa Conference League Last 16 First Leg Results:
– Ajax 0-0 Aston Villa
– Molde 2-1 Club Brugge
– Olympiacos 1-4 Maccabi Tel Aviv
– Sturm Graz 0-3 Lille

Overall, Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run in the Europa League demonstrates their strength and determination this season. With their eyes set on their first-ever Bundesliga title, the team continues to impress both domestically and in European competitions. Meanwhile, English Premier League clubs had a mixed bag of results, with Brighton suffering a heavy defeat and Liverpool securing a convincing victory. Aston Villa managed to secure a draw against Ajax, setting up an exciting second leg. Football fans can look forward to more thrilling matches as the European competitions progress.
