Joshua Kimmich Addresses His Future Amid Transfer Speculation
Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has addressed his future amid speculation surrounding a possible transfer away from the German giants. The 28-year-old has been a key component of the sides which have dominated the Bundesliga, but the club are now no longer regarding him as ‘untouchable’.
Barcelona have been heavily linked with a move for the Germany international, while a reunion with his former manager Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, who are seeking a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, has also been touted. Liverpool, meanwhile, are looking at a near total overhaul of their midfield engine room given the impending departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho and have been linked with a move for Kimmich before the transfer window closes.
Addressing his future ahead of tomorrow’s friendly against Manchester City, Kimmich gave an emphatic response, saying: ‘I’m very certain that I will play the coming season at FC Bayern. I have no other plans.’
Bayern have already made three signings this summer but none of Min-jae Kim, Konrad Laimer or Raphael Guerreiro will feature against the treble winners. Kimmich added when asked to assess the new trio: ‘They made a good impression. Unfortunately, Raphaël Guerreiro is injured, which is very painful for us and for him. We already know Konni Laimer from the Bundesliga. Minjae Kim hasn’t been able to train with us that often yet. We are glad that all three are with us. We are convinced that they will help us with their quality.’
It appears that Kimmich will remain at Bayern Munich for the foreseeable future, but only time will tell if he will stay beyond this season. The midfielder was irked by the way in which Julian Nagelsmann was treated last season when he was sacked out of the blue before the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, and it remains to be seen if he will remain content at the club if things don’t go as planned this season.
