Former Clubs Arsenal and Chelsea Unlikely to Pay £100 Million for Ivan Toney, Says William Gallas
Former Arsenal and Chelsea player William Gallas believes that it would be unlikely for either club to pay £100 million for Brentford striker Ivan Toney during the January transfer window. Both London clubs are in the market for a new striker, and Toney has emerged as a target. However, Brentford is adamant that they will not sell Toney this month and have set a high asking price for the player.
Chelsea’s Striker Problems
Chelsea has been struggling with their forward options this season, with Cole Palmer being their top scorer with eight goals. Summer signing Nicolas Jackson has scored seven goals, but three of those came in a single match against Tottenham. The lack of consistent goal-scoring has put pressure on Chelsea to find a solution in the transfer market.
Arsenal’s Scoring Woes
Arsenal, on the other hand, has been the lowest-scoring team among the top five clubs in the Premier League. Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus have only managed to score eight league goals between them. This lack of firepower has prompted Arsenal to search for a new striker, with Toney being one of their potential targets.
Gallas Questions £100 Million Price Tag
Gallas, however, views the £100 million price tag for Toney as excessive. He believes that a player of that value should either be an international player or a young player with long-term potential. Gallas doubts that either Arsenal or Chelsea would be willing to pay such a high fee for a 27-year-old striker who has only won one cap for his country.
Toney’s Loyalty to Brentford
Despite the growing interest in his services, Toney has expressed his gratitude to Brentford for their support during his time on the sidelines. He has vowed to repay the club for their faith in him and is eager to contribute on the pitch.
