Manchester United head into tonight’s Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla without star man Marcus Rashford.

Rashford’s absence will be a blow to Erik ten Hag, who is looking to guide United past the Europa League specialists and into the last four, which would keep their hopes of winning all three cup competitions this season well and truly alive.

The 25 year-old has been in blistering form so far this term, bagging 28 goals in all competitions including six in eight Europa League appearances.

But why exactly is Rashford not playing in tonight’s clash with Sevilla? Here is everything you need to know.

Why is Marcus Rashford not playing tonight?

Manchester United confirmed on Wednesday that Rashford will miss this evening’s game due to a muscle injury.

The England forward was withdrawn in the 80th minute of United’s 2-0 victory over Everton last weekend and headed straight to the dressing room for treatment.

Following a subsequent assessment, United expect Rashford to be unavailable for ‘a few games’, be he is expected to return in time for the season run-in.

Taking to Twitter to respond to the news, Rashford said: ‘I’m working hard with the physio to get back asap! See you soon.’

In Rashford’s absence, ten Hag expects other members of the United dressing room to step up and fill the void left by the influential striker.

The Dutchman said: ‘We have many more players across the squad who can score.

‘I think we have players like Bruno, like Jadon Sancho, like Anthony Martial, like Scott McTominay, like Antony.

‘We have enough players with the capabilities to score goals, definitely.’

United head to the City Ground on Sunday to face Nottingham Fixture, before travelling to Spain for the return leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan next Thursday.
