Wayne Rooney hails Jonny Evans’ return to Manchester United

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has praised former team-mate Jonny Evans on his return to Old Trafford. The Northern Irishman signed a short-term deal with United on Tuesday, and will travel with the club on their pre-season tour.

Evans had been training with United’s U21s following his release from Leicester City after the Foxes’ relegation to the Championship. The defender came through United’s academy and made nearly 200 first team appearances before joining West Brom in 2015.

Rooney and Evans’ Friendship

Evans was close friends with Rooney during his time at Old Trafford, and the pair remain close despite Rooney’s residence on the east coast of America. And, speaking ahead of the MLS All-Stars game against Arsenal, Rooney praised Evans on his return to Old Trafford.

‘I’ve literally just seen it. Dripped through before coming in,’ Rooney said. ‘Yeah, I think Jonny is a fantastic player. Obviously he’s had his injuries over the last couple of years but I haven’t seen any details of it. I’m assuming he’s signed as cover and [in case] there are any injuries to the centre-backs that are starting.’

Evans’ Career at Manchester United

Evans began his career at Manchester United in 2006, when he was just 16 years old. He made his debut for the club in 2007, and went on to make 198 appearances for the Red Devils over the next eight years. During his time at Old Trafford, Evans won three Premier League titles, two League Cups, and one Champions League title.

In 2015, Evans left Manchester United to join West Bromwich Albion, where he made a further 150 appearances. He then moved to Leicester City in 2019, but was released following their relegation from the Premier League.

Evans’ Return to Old Trafford

Evans has now returned to Old Trafford on a short-term deal, and is expected to provide cover for the club’s defence. He will travel with the team on their pre-season tour, and is likely to feature in some of the matches.

The defender is sure to be welcomed back by fans of the club, who remember him fondly from his first spell at Old Trafford. He will also be welcomed back by former team-mate Wayne Rooney, who has praised Evans’ return to the club.

Conclusion

Jonny Evans has returned to Manchester United on a short-term deal, and is sure to be welcomed back by fans of the club. Former team-mate Wayne Rooney has praised Evans’ return to Old Trafford, and is pleased to see his former team-mate back at Old Trafford.
