Wrexham AFC have the chance to secure their return to the English Football League with a win against Boreham Wood in their upcoming game. The Welsh club was purchased for £2 million by Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia actor Rob McElhenney in November 2020, and since then the non-league side has been receiving the kind of attention usually reserved for top Premier League clubs. Wrexham are currently top of the National League table with 107 points from 44 games, four points ahead of second place Notts County. They scored a significant win over that club on Easter Monday, beating their promotion rivals in a dramatic 3-2 win.

The match between Wrexham and Boreham Wood will kick off at 6.30pm on Saturday April 22. It is the club’s final home game of the season, with only an away fixture against Yeovil Town left to play on Saturday April 29. Only one team in the National League will secure automatic promotion to EFL League Two, with the next six having to duke it out in play-offs to decide who else is promoted. Boreham Wood, who are currently sixth in the table, are hoping to secure a place in the play-offs.

The match will be aired on BT Sport 1, with live coverage kicking off from 6pm. BT customers will also be able to watch the fixture on a live stream via the BT Sport web player and app. Viewers without a subscription can watch the game with a BT Sport monthly pass available for £29.99. This will provide access to the match via a live stream on the web player and app. Those who want to listen to commentary of the match can tune into BBC Radio Wales.

The reverse fixture in October 2022 ended in a 1-1 draw. That game saw Boreham Wood’s Danny Newton put the club ahead in the first half, but Wrexham’s Aaron Hayden levelled the score soon after half-time. The two sides’ last 15 meetings have ended in 11 victories for Wrexham and one win for Boreham Wood, while three matches have been drawn. The goal difference is 27-11, in favour of Wrexham. Wrexham have everything to play for in their forthcoming game against opponents Boreham Wood – as a win could secure their return into the English Football league and all eyes will be on their next clash as they hope to secure their long awaited promotion.
