Brentford have had an outstanding season in the Premier League, and are looking to secure their first win at Anfield since 1937 this weekend. The Reds have been looking more like their old selves lately, after defeating Fulham 1-0 at home on Wednesday. Billy Grant (@billythebee99) spoke to us about Brentford’s success, Liverpool’s cycle and what to expect from Saturday’s match.
Grant believes that the secret to Brentford’s success is years of planning, and their owner’s expertise in analysing stats to give them a competitive advantage on the pitch. Despite having the lowest wage bill in the Premier League, Brentford have managed to beat Man United 4-0, Liverpool 3-1, Man City 2-1 and Chelsea 2-0. He also believes that Thomas Frank will stay with Brentford this summer, as he is part of the Brentford family.
Grant also discussed the players who have shone and struggled the most this season, with Ivan Toney scoring 20-plus goals, Bryan Mbeumo and Ethan Pinnock impressing, David Raya performing well in goal, Christian Norgaard being a gem in midfield and Ben Mee being the signing of the season.
When it comes to Liverpool’s campaign, Grant believes they could have done better and can still bounce back. He believes that they need to be ready to admit their mistakes, identify where they went wrong and adapt in order to move forward.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s match, Grant believes that key battles will include Toney vs. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, Aaron Hickey vs. Luis Diaz and Mo Salah vs. Rico Henry. He also believes that Mathias Jensen having a good game is key for Brentford to maintain a competitive advantage. Finally, he predicts a 2-0 win for Brentford.
