Football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been household names worldwide for years, including in the United States. However, a third star is becoming famous across the pond and it’s not Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe. National League and Wrexham striker Paul Mullin has made a name for himself in the US. Since signing for Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham from Cambridge in 2021, the 28-year-old has become synonymous with the Red Dragons’ fairy tale transformation. Mullin has scored 46 goals to spearhead Wrexham to a League Two return for the first time in 15 years. According to his bosses, supporters Stateside now consider him “one of the greatest football players in the world”. Wrexham’s preparation for their first time back in the Football League since 2008 will see them face big guns Manchester United and Chelsea on their pre-season tour over in the States. Perhaps then McElhenney and Reynolds will be proved right that Mullin really is as recognisable as Messi and Ronaldo.
