After Saturday’s defeat to Brighton, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly addressed the squad in the dressing room and described the club’s current situation as ’embarrassing’. The Blues have failed to win any of their last six games, leaving them 11th in the Premier League table and facing a tough task against Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Boehly reportedly delivered a pep talk to the players ahead of the Madrid clash, stressing it is a golden opportunity to keep their season alive and restore some pride. The American was also seen apologetically holding his arms out to frustrated fans during the Brighton game.
Frank Lampard has revealed one of the biggest problems he currently faces is over the fitness levels in the squad. The Chelsea manager said: ‘At the minute, it has been mostly conversations and meetings than training pitch stuff. Training pitch stuff was all pretty walkthrough and low level because of the [tiredness] in the legs.’ He added that it is important for the team to do some physical work as they need to be ‘right on the limit’ to compete at this level.
