Timo Werner’s Opinion on Permanent Tottenham Signing
Timo Werner, currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Chelsea, is reportedly eager to make his move to the club permanent. The German forward, who returned to the Premier League in January, failed to meet expectations at Stamford Bridge but has found his stride at Tottenham. Werner has scored two goals and provided two assists in nine appearances for the club.
According to The Telegraph, Werner has expressed his desire to stay with the Lilywhites and has informed his allies of his willingness to make the move permanent. As part of the loan agreement, Tottenham has the option to purchase Werner for around £14.5 million, which is just over half of what RB Leipzig paid to re-sign him from Chelsea in 2022. However, this option will expire just before the start of Euro 2024 on June 14th.
It remains uncertain if Tottenham is interested in making the move permanent. The club may prioritize signing a natural striker as they already have a good number of versatile forwards, such as Son Heung-min, Brennan Johnson, and Richarlison. Richarlison’s potential departure from Tottenham could influence the club’s decision to retain Werner.
In the meantime, Werner was not called up to the Germany squad for the March internationals, giving him some time off before Tottenham’s next game against Luton Town on March 30th.
The future of Werner’s permanent signing with Tottenham is still uncertain. If Spurs decide not to exercise their option before June 14th, they may face increased competition for his signature, and the price could also go up.
