Erik ten Hag Blames Injuries for Manchester United’s Inconsistent Season
Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening, marking their 14th loss of the season in all competitions. Manager Erik ten Hag believes that injuries have been a major factor contributing to the team’s inconsistent performance throughout the season.
One of the main challenges Ten Hag has faced is a long injury list, with Rasmus Hojlund being the latest addition due to illness. Other players who were unable to participate in the match against Nottingham Forest include Luke Shaw, Sofyan Amrabat, Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Harry Maguire, and Anthony Martial, all due to injuries.
When asked about the team’s struggles with consistency, Ten Hag firmly pointed to injuries as the primary cause. He stated, “Because of injuries. We have also some issues, but mainly the injuries that hold us back in the progress. We have to turn that. What is hopeful is that in January a lot of players are returning and then our levels can be higher.”
Ten Hag acknowledged that the team’s performance was not up to par, especially in the first half where they created very few opportunities. However, he expressed some satisfaction with their second-half performance, despite conceding two goals to Nottingham Forest.
“We are in the same boat with the players, they are not happy with this. We have to do better,” Ten Hag emphasized.
Despite the challenges posed by injuries, Ten Hag remains optimistic about the team’s future. He believes that once key players return in January, their performance levels will improve significantly.
