Liverpool Urged to Make Move for Manchester United Loanee Marcel Sabitzer
Liverpool have been urged to make a move for Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer this summer following his impressive spell at Old Trafford last season. The 28-year-old Austrian international joined United on loan from Bayern Munich in January and made 18 appearances for the club before a knee injury ended his campaign with five games of the season remaining.
Stan Collymore, former Liverpool striker, is surprised that United haven’t made efforts to make Sabitzer’s stay at Old Trafford permanent and with the midfielder available for a reasonable fee of €15million (£12.8m), he has urged Jurgen Klopp to bring him in.
Sabitzer Chipped in with Important Goals
Sabitzer scored three times during his spell at United, chipping in with important goals against Fulham and Sevilla in the FA Cup and Europa League. With Thomas Tuchel now viewing him as part of his long-term plans, Bayern are prepared to sell Sabitzer this summer and reports in Germany suggest he will be available for €15million (£12.8m).
Liverpool Revamping Midfield This Summer
Liverpool are revamping their midfield this summer having already brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively. The Reds have also been keen on Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram although latest reports suggest they are cooling their interest in the France international. They are also in the market for another midfield option with the club interested in Southampton starlet Romeo Lavia, who enjoyed an impressive campaign on the south coast despite Saints’ relegation to the Championship. Southampton are thought to be demanding at least £50m for the former Manchester City youngster.
Collymore: “It’s Almost Too Good to Turn Down”
Commenting on Sabitzer, Collymore said: “There have been recent reports that the Bavarians are happy for the Austrian to leave permanently for a fee of just €15m – if that is true, I cannot believe Manchester United haven’t snapped their hand off already. If they’re not going to take Bayern Munich up on it, I wonder if Klopp will think about it. He’s proven he can play in the Premier League and that fee is almost too good to turn down, especially when it’s senior international-level midfielders you’re in the market for.”
Conclusion
Sabitzer proved himself to be a valuable asset during his loan spell at United and with Bayern Munich willing to let him go for a reasonable fee, Liverpool should seriously consider making a move for the Austrian international this summer. With Klopp looking to revamp his midfield, Sabitzer could be the perfect addition to the squad and could help take Liverpool back to the top of the Premier League.
