Gianluca Scamacca Wants a Return to Italy This Summer
West Ham forward Gianluca Scamacca has made it clear he wants to leave the club this summer and return to Italy, launching a come-and-get-me plea to Roma. The 24-year-old signed from Sassuolo last summer in a deal worth over £30m and had high hopes for his time in east London, but has failed to make an impact in the Premier League.
Scamacca has now declared that his dream scenario would be to return to Roma, where he spent time in the youth academy from 2012-15, and work with manager Jose Mourinho. However, whether a deal can be done is not entirely clear as West Ham want to recoup as much of their outlay on the Italian as possible.
West Ham Forward Struggles with David Moyes’ Style of Play
Fellow Hammers forward Michail Antonio spoke about Scamacca earlier this summer, saying that the Italian has great quality but has struggled to deal with David Moyes’ style of play at West Ham. Antonio said that Scamacca needs a different type of manager who will let him play with players to come off him and that he is not used to having to ‘feed off scraps’ and ‘be a fighter’.
It remains to be seen whether a deal can be done between West Ham and Roma for Scamacca this summer, but it is clear that the Italian forward is keen to make the move back to his homeland. With Roma interested, it could be a case of whether West Ham can get the price they want for the 24-year-old.
