Reece James Opens Up About Surgery and Online Abuse
Reece James, the Chelsea right-back, has recently undergone surgery to address a recurring hamstring problem. In a statement, he expressed his frustration at receiving a lot of hate and negativity following his latest injury setback.
Long Recovery Period and European Championships
The 24-year-old is expected to be out of action for up to four months due to the operation. This setback also seriously impacts his chances of representing England in the upcoming European Championships during the summer.
Injury Recurrence During Everton Match
James suffered a recurrence of a previous hamstring strain during Chelsea’s defeat to Everton at Goodison Park earlier this month. Initial scans were inconclusive, leading the club to seek a second opinion, which ultimately resulted in the need for surgery.
Dealing with Online Abuse
In addition to his physical recovery, James revealed that he has been subjected to online abuse. Despite this, he expressed gratitude towards those who have shown support during this difficult time.
“Since this injury, I’ve had a good amount of support but significantly more hate and negativity. Believe me, I don’t wanna be injured, I’m happiest when I’m playing football. Thanks to the understanding people that support me despite the highs or the lows, it goes a long way. Stay well, Reece.” – Reece James
Chelsea’s Injury Woes
Reece James joins a long list of Chelsea players currently sidelined due to injuries. This includes Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Robert Sanchez, Ben Chilwell, Romeo Lavia, Trevoh Chalobah, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill are also doubtful for the upcoming match against Wolves on Christmas Eve.
