Sergio Ramos Returns to His Boyhood Club Sevilla After 18 Years
After 18 years away, former Spain defender Sergio Ramos has returned to his boyhood club Sevilla. The 37-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the club after leaving Paris St-Germain on a free transfer.
“It’s a very special day, returning home is always a tremendous joy,” said Ramos. “I am happy to return and try to contribute as soon as possible, which is the important thing.”
Ramos is returning to Sevilla at a difficult time for the club, who are currently bottom of La Liga. But he brings with him an impressive resume of success. He won a World Cup and two European Championships with Spain, earning a record 180 caps over 16 years. He also lifted four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid during his 16 seasons there, making 671 appearances and winning 22 trophies, including five La Liga titles.
Ramos left Real Madrid in 2021 and spent two seasons at PSG, where he won successive league titles. Now he’s back at his boyhood club, ready to help them out of their current predicament.
Sevilla President José Castro said: “Sergio Ramos is one of the best defenders in the history of football and we are very proud that he has chosen to return home. We are sure that his experience, leadership and winning mentality will be invaluable for our team.”
Ramos himself said: “I’m here to help the team in any way I can. I’m sure that together we can achieve great things and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Sevilla fans are thrilled to have Ramos back at the club and will be hoping he can help them turn their fortunes around. With his experience and leadership, they may just have the edge they need to climb out of the relegation zone and back into the top half of La Liga.
It’s been 18 years since Ramos left Sevilla for Real Madrid, but he’s finally back home. With his help, Sevilla could be set for a remarkable turnaround this season.
