Petr Cech Takes a Swipe at Todd Boehly Regarding Chelsea’s Season Struggles

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has come under fire from former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech for the club’s struggles this season. Cech suggests that Boehly’s numerous changes to the squad and his decision to spend large transfer fees on players have increased the pressure on the team.

Since taking over from Roman Abramovich in May 2022, Boehly has completely rebuilt Chelsea both on and off the pitch. He has made a series of changes behind the scenes and revamped the squad with younger stars. The club has spent over £1 billion on players during Boehly’s tenure, including significant deals for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Despite these efforts, Chelsea is still struggling this season after a disappointing 12th-placed finish last year. The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as head coach has not yet yielded the desired results. It is believed that several Chelsea players regret signing long contracts since Boehly’s arrival, with some deals lasting up to eight-and-a-half years.

Cech, who worked as a Technical and Performance Advisor at Stamford Bridge before Boehly took over, has shared his thoughts on the club’s struggles. He acknowledges that the takeover itself was a significant change, with a new owner bringing in a new vision and style of running the club. Cech believes that adapting to these changes takes time and can be challenging for everyone involved.

The former goalkeeper also points out that the squad has undergone a complete remake since his departure. With so many changes, Cech believes that some players may have come in with high expectations due to the large sums of money spent on them. This creates additional pressure, especially when the desired results are not achieved. Cech notes that the team lacks a stable core and spine, as there have been frequent changes in the goalkeeper, defense, midfield, and attacking positions.

Cech does not believe that Chelsea is currently capable of competing for the Premier League title. He suggests that a strong end to the season and building momentum for the next season could set them up for a top-four challenge. However, he believes that the following season would be the first realistic opportunity for Chelsea to challenge for the title.

In conclusion, Petr Cech has criticized Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly for the club’s struggles this season. He believes that the numerous changes to the squad and the pressure created by significant transfer fees have affected the team’s performance. Cech also highlights the lack of stability and core in the squad due to frequent changes in key positions. While he does not see Chelsea challenging for the Premier League title this season, he believes that with time and a strong finish to the current campaign, they could position themselves for a top-four challenge in the future.
