During an Under-17s match between PSV and ADO Den Haag, a referee required treatment and was jokingly booked by one of the PSV players. The official appeared to need help from a physio as he had his leg checked while he lay on the ground. While down, the referee passed his yellow card to one of the PSV youngsters for a joke. In return, the No6 showed him the card with a gesture as if he was booking the referee. The pair, as well as another one of the players, found the situation funny as they had a chuckle and walked off. The footage was uploaded to social media where it went viral, receiving thousands of ‘likes’ and views.

Fans were quick to make their own jokes about the situation, with one fan quipping: “Neymar as a referee.” A second joked: “Why didn’t he check the var?” A third commented: “That’s why we love football, soo much fun in it.” Another said: “Bro said to give your mate a yellow for me.” One wrote: “The best referee in football history.” Meanwhile, another added: “Friendly Fire.”

This is not the first time a player has jokingly booked an official. In 1995, during a game between Rangers and Hibernian, Paul Gascoigne did the same thing. Dougie Smith dropped his card and Gascoigne was quick to pick it up and show it to the referee. Not seeing the funny side, Smith immediately repaid the favour and booked the midfielder.

It is always refreshing to see moments like this in football, where players and officials can have a laugh together. It shows that football is not just about winning or losing, but also about having fun and enjoying the game. Moments like this bring a smile to people’s faces and remind us why we love football so much.

Referees play an important role in football, and it is essential that they are respected by players and fans alike. However, it is also important to remember that they are human and can make mistakes. It is up to the players to accept the decisions made by the officials and not to take things too seriously. After all, football is just a game, and it is meant to be enjoyed by everyone.

In recent years, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding referees and their decisions. The introduction of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) has been a significant development in football, as it allows officials to review decisions and ensure that they are correct. However, VAR has also been criticised for slowing down the game and taking away some of the spontaneity and excitement.

Despite the controversies surrounding referees, they remain an integral part of football. They ensure that the game is played fairly and that the rules are followed. Without referees, football would not be the same, and it is important that we continue to respect them and their decisions.

In conclusion, the incident during the Under-17s match between PSV and ADO Den Haag was a lighthearted moment that brought a smile to people’s faces. It is always good to see players and officials having fun together, and it reminds us why we love football so much. Referees play an important role in football, and it is essential that they are respected by players and fans alike. We should continue to enjoy the game and remember that football is just a game meant to be enjoyed by everyone.
