Liverpool Football Club (LFC) is set to break a new attendance record at Anfield for their upcoming match against Burnley. The Liverpool City Council has confirmed that the stadium has been cleared to welcome a record 60,725 spectators, making it nearly packed to its full capacity.
The Reds are looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Arsenal in their previous Premier League match. Having the support of such a large crowd could provide them with the motivation they need to secure a victory.
The Anfield Road End, one of the stands at the stadium, will be almost completely full, with just a few seats remaining to reach the full capacity of 61,000. Earlier this week, it was reported that a record number of fans would be able to attend the match, pending clearance and safety checks. These checks have now been passed, guaranteeing that the game will have the biggest attendance for a Liverpool home game in over seven decades.
The Liverpool City Council announced on Twitter that the Council’s Ground Safety Advisory Group has recommended granting LFC a fourth interim safety certificate for Anfield stadium. This will allow an additional 2,421 fans to be accommodated in the upper tier of the new Anfield Rd stand, bringing the total capacity to 60,725.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, expressed his excitement about almost filling the stadium during his pre-match press conference. He hopes to see both a strong reaction from the fans in the stands and on-field performance from his team.
Despite this record-breaking attendance, it falls just short of the highest-ever recorded at Anfield. The all-time highest attendance was achieved back in 1952 when all-seater stadiums were not yet introduced in English football. On that occasion, Wolves were the visiting team in the FA Cup fourth round, and Liverpool emerged as 2-1 winners thanks to a goal from Bob Paisley.
However, this match against Burnley will mark the largest all-seated crowd in the history of Anfield. The phased opening of the new stand has required the patience of many fans, but the news of additional capacity has delighted 2,421 supporters who are eager to be a part of the historic occasion.
The hope is that the increased attendance will contribute to a big atmosphere and a comfortable victory over Burnley. With such strong support from the fans, Liverpool will have a significant advantage as they aim to bounce back from their recent defeat and continue their pursuit of success in the Premier League.
