Rangers in Talks to Sign Michy Batshuayi on Short-Term Deal
Rangers, the Scottish Premiership side, are reportedly in shock talks to bring Chelsea flop Michy Batshuayi back to the UK. The team is currently facing a shortage of attacking options with Abdallah Sima on Africa Cup of Nations duty and Cyriel Dessers potentially joining the tournament as well.
Rangers have been linked with a move for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, who has been in impressive form this season with 18 goals in 28 games. However, manager Philippe Clement is also reportedly interested in signing Michy Batshuayi, making him their number one target.
The 30-year-old Batshuayi has allegedly failed to reach an agreement on a new contract with Fenerbahce and could be allowed to leave this month. Rangers are hoping to secure his services on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Reports from Turkey suggest that Everton is also interested in bringing the Belgian striker back to the Premier League. In the summer, Nottingham Forest was also linked to Batshuayi, with rumors of personal terms being agreed upon.
During his time at Chelsea, Batshuayi spent most of his spell out on loan at various clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Crystal Palace, and Besiktas. He left permanently for Fenerbahce in 2022 and has since rediscovered his goalscoring form with 28 goals in 52 appearances.
With the possibility of a return to the UK, Batshuayi may feel that he has unfinished business and could be tempted by a move to Rangers.
