Tottenham Manager Ange Postecoglou Addresses Eric Dier’s Absence Amid Transfer Rumors
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou was questioned about the absence of defender Eric Dier from the Spurs squad during their recent 1-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Burnley. Speculation has been circulating that Dier has agreed to personal terms with Bayern Munich. However, Postecoglou dismissed these rumors and attributed Dier’s absence to an injury. He firmly shut down any reporter who suggested otherwise.
When asked about Dier’s injury in a post-match press conference, Postecoglou confirmed, “Yeah, he’s injured.” He further explained that Dier had experienced discomfort during training the day before the match. When questioned about the Bayern Munich links, Postecoglou responded, “Separate issue mate but don’t question my integrity. When I say he’s injured, he’s injured. Didn’t train yesterday. Ask him. When I say he’s injured, he’s injured. Got nothing to do with anything else.”
The reporter persisted and inquired once again about the Bayern Munich transfer rumors. Postecoglou maintained his stance, stating, “I got no idea. I’ve got no interest. But when you ask me whether he’s injured… He’s injured, like I did not make that up. If he wasn’t injured I’d say he’s not selected, it’s easy for me to say. Now in terms of anything else that’s happening? Not on my radar, not that I’ve heard of and if there is something I’m sure I’ll hear of it.”
It has been reported that Dier has already agreed to personal terms with Bayern Munich, and Tottenham could receive approximately £4 million for the defender. The final decision lies with Bayern Munich on whether they will pursue Dier or explore other defensive options.
When asked if he can afford to let Dier go, considering Ben Davies’ injury in the Burnley game, Postecoglou simply replied, “Yes.” Tottenham is currently in negotiations with Genoa for the signing of center-back Radu Dragusin, who would replace Dier in the squad. Additionally, advanced talks are underway to secure the signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig, with the former Chelsea striker expected to finalize the deal tomorrow.
