Mauricio Pochettino has made a positive start to his tenure at Chelsea, with the Argentine manager putting faith in a plethora of young talent following the senior exodus. With Liverpool set to visit Stamford Bridge on the opening day of the season, Pochettino is expecting his young players to be involved and is determined to win the game.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Young Talent at Chelsea
Pochettino has been building something special at Chelsea since his arrival and is confident that his young players can deliver despite the challenge of competing with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. He has already put faith in his youngsters during pre-season, and is likely to name a host of them in his starting XI for the match against the Reds.
One player who won’t be involved is new forward Christopher Nkunku, who sustained a knee injury in their final pre-season match against Borussia Dortmund. Nicolas Jackson is likely to take up the focal point role in his absence, with the likes of Reece James, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell, Enzo Fernandez, Conor Gallagher and Raheem Sterling also expected to start.
Liverpool’s Senior Exodus
Liverpool are currently without a recognised No. 6 and have seen six of their experienced first-team players depart this summer. Jurgen Klopp is on the hunt for reinforcements, as are Chelsea, with midfielders at the top of both clubs’ lists.
The Reds have one final game on Monday evening before their focus turns to Chelsea, and hopefully by then they have at least one new signing in their midst.
Pochettino’s Determination to Win
Despite the challenge of climbing back up the table, Pochettino is confident that his squad is “in a good way” and is determined to win against Liverpool. He knows how difficult it is to build a squad to compete with City, Liverpool and company, but believes that his young players can deliver.
The Blues have concluded their pre-season preparations with three wins and two draws from their friendly matches, while Liverpool have one final game before their focus turns to Chelsea.
