Moises Caicedo Absent from Chelsea Squad for Wolves Clash
Moises Caicedo was surprisingly absent from Chelsea’s matchday squad for their Premier League clash against Wolves on Christmas Eve. With the festive fixtures in full swing, it was expected that manager Mauricio Pochettino would rotate his team for the trip to Molineux.
Changes to the Starting XI
Malo Gusto, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Armando Broja were brought into the starting lineup, replacing Benoit Badiashile, Caicedo, and Enzo Fernandez. The Blues appeared to line up in a 4-4-2 formation.
While Fernandez’s absence was already known, Caicedo’s absence from even the bench raised concerns among fans, who feared another injury setback. Reports suggest that Caicedo, who played the full 90 minutes against Newcastle, has fallen ill and was unable to travel to Molineux.
Pochettino confirmed the news before the match, stating, “Moises Caicedo has a high fever, so he is not involved today.”
Illness also ruled out Fernandez, while Badiashile, who has been struggling with a bug, was named on the bench. Fans will be hoping for Caicedo’s speedy recovery ahead of Chelsea’s next game against Crystal Palace on December 27th at Stamford Bridge.
Pochettino’s Line-Up Explanation
Explaining his line-up choices, Pochettino said, “We have the possibility to play with Armando and Nicolas Jackson together today, and also Malo Gusto comes in as a more offensive full-back, with Axel Disasi moving inside. We try to find the best solutions when we lose players and we are looking for the right combinations today while still keeping a good balance.”
