Chelsea Manager Mauricio Pochettino Confirms Ian Maatsen’s Move to Borussia Dortmund
In a recent development, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has effectively confirmed Ian Maatsen’s imminent move to Borussia Dortmund. While the Blues suffered a 1-0 defeat against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, Maatsen was already in Germany finalizing his loan move until the end of the season.
Pochettino’s decision to allow Maatsen to leave has raised questions among fans, especially considering the club’s current lack of fit players. However, the Chelsea manager has all but confirmed Maatsen’s departure, stating that negotiations with Dortmund are ongoing and the club will inform when a deal is finalized.
The absence of a striker in Chelsea’s lineup against Boro raised eyebrows, with Cole Palmer playing as a false nine. Armando Broja, who scored in the FA Cup match against Preston, was left on the bench until the 63rd minute. Pochettino explained that after a long injury lay-off, he couldn’t risk starting Broja again so soon after the Preston match.
When asked about the numerous injuries plaguing Chelsea, Pochettino attributed it to bad luck and the profile of certain players. He expressed the difficulty of finding the right balance in the team when key players are unavailable for selection.
Looking ahead, Pochettino emphasized the need for trust and confidence among the players and a quick recovery to be in the best condition for their upcoming Premier League game against Fulham.
