Paul Scholes: Rasmus Hojlund Was “Lucky to be on the Pitch” After Scoring First Premier League Goal
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has commented on Rasmus Hojlund’s first Premier League goal, stating that the striker was “lucky to be on the pitch.” Hojlund scored his first goal in the top-flight after playing 1026 minutes of action.
Hojlund expressed his joy after netting the winning goal for Manchester United in a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The Denmark international, who joined the club in a £72m deal this summer, had struggled to find the back of the net in his previous 15 games.
United manager Erik ten Hag had planned to substitute Hojlund in the second half, but changed his mind after Marcus Rashford picked up an injury. Scholes acknowledged that Hojlund had some luck with his goal but praised him for acting on instinct.
Scholes also praised Marcus Rashford and Christian Eriksen for their performances in the match. He highlighted the threat they posed to Aston Villa’s defense and emphasized the importance of building on this victory for the young United players.
