Reece James Urged to Prioritize Injury Recovery by Paul Merson
Former footballer Paul Merson has advised Reece James, the captain of Chelsea, to take his time with his injury recovery following his recent hamstring surgery.
James has been struggling with injuries throughout the season, only managing to play 451 minutes of football. Now, he is facing another four months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery for his hamstring.
The right-back sustained a recurrence of a previous hamstring strain during Chelsea’s defeat against Everton earlier this month. After careful consideration, it was determined that surgery was the best course of action.
This injury setback not only poses a significant blow to the club but also diminishes James’ chances of being selected for the England squad in Euro 2024.
Despite his eagerness to return to the pitch and support his team under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Merson emphasizes the importance of patience in recovering from injuries to maintain long-term fitness.
James is one of nine players who will be absent for Chelsea’s upcoming match against Wolves on Christmas Eve. Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill, and Noni Maduake are also doubtful for the game.
With just three points separating the two teams in the league, there is a possibility that Chelsea could find themselves in the bottom half of the table by Christmas if results do not go their way.
Merson commented on the upcoming match, stating that Wolves looked poor in their recent game against West Ham. He believes that Chelsea’s defensive vulnerabilities make a draw the most likely outcome. Merson predicts a 2-2 draw between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea.
