Paul Merson suggests Chelsea may not win any of their next 10 fixtures
Paul Merson has suggested Chelsea may not win any of their next 10 fixtures after their abysmal start to the season under Mauricio Pochettino.
The Blues have won just one of their opening six Premier League matches this term, which came at home against promoted side Luton Town.
The west Londoners return to action on Wednesday when they host Brighton in the Carabao Cup before crucial top-flight matches against Fulham and Burnley.
After that, Chelsea have a tricky run of Premier League fixtures and take on Arsenal, Brentford, Tottenham, Manchester City, Newcastle, Brighton and then Manchester United.
Merson Worried for Chelsea
‘If you look at Chelsea’s fixtures, you worry for them,’ Merson told Sky Sports. ‘The next 10 games are so vital for their season that you can’t catch your breath.
‘It’s a run where you actually don’t know when they’re going to win a football match. So Wednesday is a huge football match. If they get beat here, they will have won three games in their last 24. One was against Luton and you don’t know when they will win a game.
‘One was against AFC Wimbledon in the cup and they got over the line in that one. And the other one was against Bournemouth in the league last season but only after Bournemouth got enough points to stay up.
‘Even Mauricio Pochettino is coming out and is now saying: ‘It’s a process, you have to be patient’. When a manager comes out and says that, it shows they are starting to get a bit panicky. Even he doesn’t think it was meant to be like this.
‘If he is saying that already, it’s a worry. I hope he gets that patience and time, they have injuries too. But I’m worried.’
Chelsea’s Crucial Run of Fixtures
Chelsea’s next 10 fixtures are crucial for the club’s season as they look to turn their fortunes around. The Blues face some tough opponents in the form of Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Manchester United.
Merson has suggested that even Mauricio Pochettino is starting to get ‘panicky’ as the pressure mounts on him to turn things around. The former Spurs manager has come out and said that it’s a process and that patience is needed.
However, with Chelsea’s current form, it’s hard to see them winning any of their next 10 fixtures. It’s a worrying time for Chelsea fans as they hope their team can turn things around and start picking up points.
