Patrice Evra Defends Manchester United Goalkeeper Andre Onana Over Error Against Aston Villa

Patrice Evra has come to the defense of Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana following his error against Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Onana, who took over as United’s No.1 goalkeeper this summer, has made a few mistakes this season.
Defending Onana’s Mistake
In the match against Aston Villa, Onana was arguably at fault for their first goal. He remained rooted to his line when he should have come out to collect a ball that bounced just two yards out. However, Evra defended the 27-year-old, stating that it depends on the style of the goalkeeper. He compared Onana to Thibaut Courtois, Edwin van der Sar, and David de Gea, emphasizing that each goalkeeper has their own approach.
Disagreement from Eni Aluko
Eni Aluko, another pundit, disagreed with Evra’s viewpoint. She believes that Onana should have controlled the box better for the first goal. Aluko highlighted the importance of a goalkeeper being more proactive and front-footed when dealing with bouncing balls in the box.
Despite being 2-0 down at halftime, Evra was impressed with United’s performance in the first 45 minutes. He acknowledged that United had created enough chances to be winning the game but needed to make better decisions. Evra expressed confidence that if United continued to play the same way and focused on set-pieces, they could turn the game around and potentially win 3-2.
