Liverpool’s Anfield Road stand expansion, which has been in progress since 2021, is nearing completion. The famous Anfield Stadium has been undergoing reconstruction for over two years as the club aims to increase its capacity. Despite previous statements suggesting that fans would not have access to the top tier of the new stand until 2024, recent reports indicate that it may partially open in time for Liverpool’s match against Manchester United on December 17.
Delays in the development occurred after the building firm, Buckingham Group, filed for administration. Prior to this setback, the Anfield Road stand was scheduled to open before the start of the season. Now, it is expected that the stand will be approximately half full for the clash against Manchester United.
The expansion works will increase Anfield’s overall capacity from 56,000 to 61,000, making it the fourth largest stadium in the Premier League. However, before the stand can be officially opened, Liverpool City Council must approve the development by observing a public test event with 3,000 attendees.
If everything goes according to plan, Liverpool could welcome more fans into the stadium during the festive period. Those who had their previous tickets canceled due to the delays will be given priority access to tickets in the new stand.
This development is exciting news for fans, as it means more supporters will have the opportunity to watch their beloved team in action. The stand is expected to be available for future games against West Ham, Arsenal, and Newcastle United as well.
