Tottenham and Newcastle Face Setback in Pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is attracting interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham and Newcastle. However, both clubs have been informed that a move for the England centre-back will not be possible in the January transfer window unless a substantial fee is offered.
Eagles Stand Firm on Guehi’s Transfer
Crystal Palace manager Ange Postecoglou is eager to strengthen his defensive line, while Newcastle boss Eddie Howe hopes the return of Dan Burn from injury will provide temporary relief. Unfortunately, neither club is expected to have the financial resources to meet Palace’s demands, which means they will have to wait until the summer when Guehi becomes available for transfer.
Competition for Guehi’s Signature
Arsenal and both Manchester clubs have also expressed interest in signing Guehi. Additionally, Chelsea, who sold Guehi to Palace for £20 million in 2021, have the option to match any bid made for the defender.
Spurs’ Pursuit of Conor Gallagher
In addition to their interest in Guehi, Tottenham is also targeting Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. However, acquiring Gallagher would require a transfer chain involving the sale of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to either Fulham or Bayern Munich, and a transfer fee of £50 million.
Guehi’s International Career
Guehi has recently become a part of Gareth Southgate’s plans for the England national team. He made his debut in a friendly match against Switzerland and was also included in the squad for the game against Ivory Coast.
However, a potential move away from Crystal Palace could impact Guehi’s chances of representing England in the Euro 2024 tournament. The pressure of a big-money transfer and adjusting to a new team could potentially affect his form leading up to the tournament.
