Optimal Origi Sought by Forest Manager for LFC Reunion
Divock Origi, the former Liverpool player, may have a chance to face his former team for the first time since leaving in 2022. His current manager at Nottingham Forest sees him as a valuable asset in their quest for success. However, Origi has yet to score a goal in the Premier League this season, and only five teams have scored fewer goals than Forest.
On loan from AC Milan, Origi has had a mixed season at Forest, making 14 appearances but only starting in four of them. Despite this, he has managed to contribute with one goal and an assist. His manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, believes that Origi is improving and could be a key player for their team. However, he did not confirm whether Origi would start against Liverpool.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Nuno said, “He has been in and out of the team due to some small issues that have been delaying his progress. But in the first half of our recent match against Manchester United in the FA Cup, he was amazing for us. He is a solution because he can play in multiple positions. We need the best version of Divock.”
While Liverpool fans are likely to welcome Origi warmly at the City Ground, there will be no pleasantries on the pitch as Jurgen Klopp’s side aims to maintain their position at the top of the table. Nuno expects a tough challenge from Liverpool and believes that Forest will need to be clinical with their chances and control the opposition’s offensive movements.
“They are really dangerous with their speed and quality, so it will require a lot of effort from us,” Nuno explained. “But we have to keep our style of play and continue going forward no matter who we face because that’s what our team needs. Defensively, we need to be aware of the quality of the Liverpool players.”
Nuno did not disclose any information regarding potential players returning for Forest, but there is a possibility that Chris Wood could be in contention. Jurgen Klopp is expected to provide an update on Liverpool’s injury situation in his press conference on Friday afternoon.
As the anticipation builds for the reunion between Origi and his former team, both sides are preparing for a crucial match. Forest will be hoping that Origi can showcase his best form and help them secure a victory against one of the league’s top teams. Liverpool, on the other hand, will be looking to extend their lead at the top and continue their impressive run of form. Only time will tell how this highly anticipated encounter unfolds.
