Norwich City is set to appoint Johannes Hoff Thorup as their new manager, replacing David Wagner who was sacked after their 4-0 play-off defeat against Leeds. Thorup, currently the boss of Nordsjaelland, took charge of his potentially final Danish Superliga game, a 1-1 draw at Copenhagen. When asked about the Norwich job, Thorup remained tight-lipped, showing respect for his current club. Nordsjaelland is Thorup’s first club as a manager, and he has achieved success, winning 34 out of 66 games since taking charge in January last year.
Wagner, who arrived at Norwich at the same time as Thorup, won 31 out of his 75 matches. Prior to joining Norwich, Wagner had managerial spells with Young Boys and Schalke. However, it was his time at Huddersfield that established him as a name in English football. He won 51 out of his 154 games at Huddersfield, including promotion to the Premier League in 2017.
After Wagner’s departure from Norwich, sporting director Ben Knapper expressed gratitude for Wagner’s conduct during his tenure but stated that the club is now looking to move in a different direction. The club remains dedicated to progressing and has a thorough strategy in place for the short and long term. The appointment of a new head coach is seen as crucial, and the club will conduct due diligence to ensure the right candidate is selected.
In the transfer news, Bayern Munich is reportedly lining up a sensational transfer for Jack Grealish to pair him with Harry Kane under the management of ex-Manchester City star Vincent Kompany. Aston Villa is said to be close to re-signing Ross Barkley permanently. Additionally, Arsenal is looking to sign a new striker before their pre-season tour.
