Newcastle Set to Seal £40m Deal for Leicester City Winger Harvey Barnes
Newcastle are set to complete a £40m deal for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes this week. The Magpies had been behind Aston Villa and West Ham in the race to sign the 23-year-old, but both sides have failed to capitalise on Leicester’s desire to raise funds following their relegation to the Championship.
The Foxes had valued Barnes at £60m last summer, when Newcastle were keen on signing the winger. But with Leicester now seeking around £40m for Barnes, a deal between the two clubs is expected to be agreed this week. This is a blow to West Ham, who had been desperate to sign the forward to play on the opposite flank to Jarrod Bowen.

The opportunity to play Champions League football with Newcastle is appealing to Barnes, who netted 13 goals for Leicester last season despite their poor form. James Maddison has already joined Tottenham in a deal worth around £40m, meaning Leicester will raise around £80m for the English pair.
Newcastle’s move for Barnes follows their recent acquisition of defender Jamal Lewis from Norwich City. The Magpies are also reportedly close to signing Joe Willock from Arsenal on a permanent basis, after his successful loan spell at St James’ Park last season.
With Howe on the brink of his second signing of the summer, Newcastle fans will be hoping that Barnes can help the side push for a top-six finish next season. The winger has been in impressive form over the past two seasons and could prove to be a key addition to the Magpies’ squad.
