Nebraska Lands Oregon Transfer Dante Dowdell at Running Back
Nebraska has made another addition to its offensive transformation with the commitment of Dante Dowdell, a transfer from Oregon. Dowdell, a four-star prospect out of Picayune, Miss., was ranked as the ninth-best player at his position nationally in the Class of 2023. Despite only having 17 rushing attempts last year with the Ducks, Dowdell has three years of eligibility remaining at Nebraska.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound running back joins Texas transfer Isaiah Neyor, a wide receiver, as part of Nebraska’s weekend haul. Coach Matt Rhule had expressed the need for a running back in the 2025 recruiting class and kept an eye on the transfer portal for potential options. Dowdell visited Lincoln and spent time with the Huskers’ contingent, including quarterback Dylan Raiola.
With Dowdell’s addition, the Huskers’ running back group receives a much-needed boost. Gabe Ervin and Rahmir Johnson are returning from injuries, while Emmett Johnson and Kwinten Ives are also part of the mix. Dowdell will have an opportunity to showcase his skills during spring practice as the older backs work on their recovery. Dowdell’s physicality and size make him a strong fit for a Big Ten offense.
Nebraska’s coaches may limit their contact with Dowdell until training camp in August. In the meantime, Emmett Johnson performed well in the second half of last season. Dowdell’s arrival adds depth and competition to the running back position.
Overall, Nebraska’s acquisition of Dante Dowdell is a significant move for their offense. With his talent and potential, Dowdell has the opportunity to make a significant impact on the team.
