Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez Miss Chelsea’s Clash vs Brentford Due to Injury

Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez were not named in Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea squad to face Brentford on Saturday due to ‘small muscle strains’. Pochettino confirmed the minor injuries to both players in his pre-match interview while Fernandez’s absence was also due to his partner giving birth this week.

Chelsea provided an injury update on seven players on Friday in the build-up to the clash at Stamford Bridge but there was no mention of the duo’s problems.

Mudryk’s Omission a Blow for Chelsea

Mudryk’s omission is a blow for Chelsea with the Ukraine international having registered two goals in his last three Premier League games.

‘Both of them felt a small muscle strain yesterday, but I hope they will be available for the next game,’ Pochettino told TNT Sports.

‘It’s not a big issue, should be fixed in the next few days. We are going to miss both of them as they are very good players, but we have a very big squad to cope with that.

‘Yes maybe [the arrival of the new baby for Enzo Fernandez] was the reason he could not train and felt uncomfortable yesterday. But he is going to rest now and recover as quick as possible.’

Pochettino Makes Three Changes to Side

Pochettino made three changes to the side that threw away a two-goal lead against Arsenal last time out, with Axel Disasi returning from injury in place of Malo Gusto.

Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson came in for Mudryk and Fernandez while goalkeeper Robert Sanchez kept his place in the XI despite his blunder in the 2-2 draw against the Gunners.

‘Nico [Jackson] is much better after his recovery and he is ready to start the game,’ Pochettino added.
