Tyrone Mings to Undergo Scan on Injury After Aston Villa’s Defeat to Newcastle United

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings will undergo a scan on the injury he sustained during their 5-1 defeat by Newcastle United. The 30-year-old was taken off after just half an hour following a collision with Alexander Isak.

The match was halted for a significant period as Mings received treatment on the pitch. Eventually, he was stretchered off with his head in his hands. Summer signing Pau Torres came on to make his Villa debut as Mings’ replacement.

Villa head coach Unai Emery expressed concern about Mings’ injury, stating, “We don’t know exactly about his injury, but it doesn’t look good. Tomorrow, we will scan him. The first analysis from the doctor suggests we have to wait for the scan, but it doesn’t look good. We will do the scan in the hospital tomorrow.”

Mings’ departure from the game came when Villa were trailing 2-1. Sandro Tonali had given Newcastle an early lead, which was canceled out by Moussa Diaby. Isak then put the hosts ahead again in the 16th minute, taking advantage of an error from Ezri Konsa to score his second goal of the match. Callum Wilson added a fourth for Newcastle in the 77th minute.

This injury setback is particularly concerning for Mings, as he previously missed 15 months of action due to cruciate and medial ligament injuries in his knee during his debut for Bournemouth in August 2015. However, he had a successful season for Villa last year after Emery’s appointment, earning a recall to the England national team in May and making a substitute appearance in their 4-0 win over Malta in June.

In addition to Mings’ injury, Villa also suffered a blow during the build-up to the Newcastle game, with attacking midfielder Emi Buendia sustaining an ACL injury.

Villa will be hoping for a swift recovery for Mings as they prepare to face Everton in their next match. The team will need to regroup and find a way to bounce back from their disappointing defeat.

The injury to Mings raises concerns about Villa’s defensive depth and the potential impact on their upcoming fixtures. Losing a key player like Mings can disrupt the team’s defensive organization and stability. It remains to be seen how Emery will adjust his lineup and tactics to compensate for Mings’ absence.

The timing of this injury is unfortunate for Villa, as they aim to build on their strong performances from last season and continue their progress under Emery. Mings’ presence at the heart of the defense has been crucial, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt.

As Villa awaits the results of Mings’ scan, fans and teammates will be hoping for positive news and a quick recovery. The team will need to rally together and find ways to overcome this setback, both on and off the pitch.

In the meantime, attention will turn to other players who can step up and fill the void left by Mings’ absence. Pau Torres, who made his debut as Mings’ replacement against Newcastle, will likely be called upon to play a more prominent role in the coming matches.

The injury to Mings serves as a reminder of the physical demands and risks that professional footballers face. It highlights the importance of proper medical care and support for players, as well as the need for teams to have sufficient depth in their squad to cope with injuries.

Villa will be hoping for a positive outcome from Mings’ scan and a swift recovery for their influential defender. In the meantime, they must focus on regrouping and finding ways to continue their progress without him.
