Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta Provides Injury Update on Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey Ahead of Champions League Clash
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a positive update on the fitness of Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against RC Lens. The duo have both been struggling with injury, with Saka having limped off in the recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham and Partey missing the last six matches due to a groin problem.
Bukayo Saka
Saka had limped off in the recent 2-2 draw with Tottenham, missing the Carabao Cup victory over Brentford before returning for Saturday’s 4-0 win at AFC Bournemouth. Arteta had said that Saka picked up a ‘bad knock’ following victory over the Cherries but on Monday he provided a more positive update on his star player: ‘He’s fine. He’s much better. It was a big knock but he has recovered well and trained with us today.’
Thomas Partey
Partey has missed Arsenal’s last six matches across all competitions with a groin problem. Arteta said that Partey has ‘progressed really well in the last two weeks’ and managed to train with the team in the last few days. He added: ‘He might have some exposure tomorrow depending how the game goes. He’s a big player and we know what he brings to the team. He knows exactly what we need and with the injuries we had to other players in midfield and at the back he complements us in a great way and gives us options. So it’s great to have him back again.’
Arsenal’s Upcoming Fixtures
After their second Champions League game of the season, Arsenal return to Premier League action on Sunday as they host champions Manchester City. Arsenal will be hoping to have both Saka and Partey available for selection for this game, as they look to build on their impressive start to the season.
Conclusion
It is great news for Arsenal fans that both Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey are making good progress in their recovery from injury. The duo have been key players for the Gunners this season and their return to action will be a welcome boost for Mikel Arteta ahead of some big games in the coming weeks.
