Kai Havertz to Feature in Multiple Positions for Arsenal This Season, Says Mikel Arteta
Arsenal fans have been given a glimpse of what to expect from summer signing Kai Havertz after he scored his first goal for the club in last night’s 5-0 win over MLS All-Stars. The £65million signing from Chelsea has been tipped to play in a number of different positions this season, according to manager Mikel Arteta.
The 21-year-old German international, who joined the Gunners from Chelsea this summer, made his non-competitive debut against Nurnberg last week before causing some measure of concern after he flunked the All-Star Skills Challenge on Tuesday night.
However, Havertz showed his quality with a smartly taken goal, thundering home a volley at the near post after pulling down Marquinhos’ cross with a delicious first touch.
Mikel Arteta on Kai Havertz’s Versatility
Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta said: ‘I think, again, it’s one of the main qualities he has. He gives us something very different with his quality and size as well, when you have to beat the press for example and use him as a target man.
‘So, we will see – for now, he’s playing in the attacking midfield position, but I’m sure throughout the season and throughout games as well, we’re going to have the options to play him in different positions.’
Fellow summer recruits Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber also made their first appearances in Arsenal colours and Arteta is confident the new trio will settle in quickly. He added: ‘hey are and w’We have to find that fluidity within the game, and those relationships. That’s something that is difficult to predict as a coach what’s going to work, but sometimes whether it’s on the pitch or sitting at the table, and they find that chemistry between them.
Conclusion
It remains to be seen how Kai Havertz will fit into Mikel Arteta’s plans this season, but it appears that the German international will be used in multiple positions. With Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber also settling in quickly, Arsenal fans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming season.
