Ivan Toney Laughs Off Potential Sale Hint by Brentford Manager
Brentford’s Ivan Toney has responded with humor to Thomas Frank’s recent comments hinting at his potential sale in the summer. Toney played a crucial role in Brentford’s impressive 2-0 victory over Wolves, scoring his third goal in four Premier League games.
The build-up to the match was dominated by speculation surrounding Toney’s future after Frank admitted that it was highly likely the star striker would be on the move at the end of the season. Toney, who was linked with Arsenal and Chelsea during the January transfer window, has made no secret of his desire to play for a “top team.”
Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, Frank stated, “It is relatively obvious that Ivan Toney will probably be sold this summer. We also know what he is worth. I don’t think there are many strikers in the world who are better than him right now. Personally, as a coach, I would prefer to keep Toney but one day it could be fun to see him on a top team.”
Toney took Frank’s comments in good humor, jokingly saying, “I see that as he doesn’t want me!” He added, “Nah, the manager has said what he’s said but listen, I can’t make clubs come and get me. I’ve just got to keep doing what I do and that’s score goals and like I said, what will be, will be.”
Brentford’s victory over Wolves was their first away win since October and has put a six-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone. Toney described it as a “massive” result for the club and emphasized the importance of a clean sheet.
“It’s massive. I think we work hard week in, week out. We work on a defensive basis,” Toney said. “Obviously, the last few games haven’t been the best. We’ve conceded way too many goals and I think that’s obvious. But today, the main thing was a clean sheet and to win the game, and we managed to get that.”
Toney’s performance and positive response to Frank’s comments have further cemented his reputation as one of the top strikers in the Premier League. It remains to be seen which “top team” will ultimately secure his services in the summer transfer window.
