Mikel Arteta has said that Arsenal are doing everything they can to secure William Saliba’s future at the club, with the 22-year-old having been in fantastic form for the Gunners this season. Saliba signed for Arsenal in 2019 and has since had loan spells at Saint-Etienne, Nice and Marseille before being trusted in the first team by Arteta. His current contract expires in 2024, and Arsenal are keen for him to sign a new one. Arteta is confident that Saliba will put pen to paper, but there is no update on the situation as of yet. He said: ‘We want to keep our best talent. Especially the players that deserve some recognition. I think he has been incredible since he came back from his loan period and we want to reward him, that is for sure. We will find the right moment to do that. Edu and the board are on top of every negotiation regarding new contracts and now we are doing everything we possibly can to do that in the right moment at the right time. It is about timing, I think. Nothing else.’ Saliba has been out of action since March with a back problem and remains out for the clash with Newcastle this weekend. Arteta said there has been ‘not a lot of progress’ in terms of his fitness.
