Mikel Arteta Confident Aaron Ramsdale Will Stay at Arsenal

Amid speculation about Aaron Ramsdale’s future, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that the goalkeeper wants to remain at the club. However, Arteta cannot guarantee that Ramsdale won’t join Newcastle United in the upcoming January transfer window.
Ramsdale’s Demotion and Limited Playing Time
Ramsdale’s position as the No.2 goalkeeper at Arsenal came under scrutiny after the arrival of David Raya. Since Raya’s loan move to the Emirates, Ramsdale has only played in the Carabao Cup and one Premier League match against Raya’s parent club Brentford.
Speculation and Rumors
Recent rumors have linked Ramsdale with a potential move away from Arsenal, particularly with reports suggesting that Arsenal plans to sign Raya permanently. Additionally, Arteta’s reluctance to individually praise Ramsdale for his clean sheet against Brentford has fueled speculation about his future. Newcastle United has emerged as a possible destination for Ramsdale, especially with their need for a goalkeeper due to Nick Pope’s injury. Former Manchester United keeper David de Gea has also been linked with Newcastle.
Ramsdale’s potential move to Newcastle is seen as an opportunity for him, especially considering his place in the England squad for Euro 2024 is at stake.
Arteta’s Stance
Despite the rumors, Arteta remains certain that Ramsdale has no plans to leave Arsenal. In his pre-match press conference, Arteta stated, “I want Aaron with us. I am very happy to have two very, very good goalkeepers, and Aaron is staying with us. He’s willing to play and wants to play for Arsenal. That’s what he wants to do. We want to help him be better here so that he can play for England.”
However, Arteta did not rule out the possibility of Ramsdale or any other player leaving the club in January. He emphasized that he cannot guarantee that nobody will be leaving, including a potential move to Newcastle.

Potential Departures in January
Arteta made it clear that he cannot provide definitive answers about player departures in January. He stated, “I won’t do that to any player. Any player. I cannot tell you that any Arsenal player is not going to leave in January. Or he is to stay here for the next three years. I won’t say that no player is going to go to Newcastle. Or no member of the staff, either. I won’t say it. If you say yes or no, I won’t say it. I cannot guarantee that nobody is going to be leaving in January. For Newcastle or any other club.”
