Arsenal are reportedly ready to cash in on midfielder Thomas Partey this summer, along with Granit Xhaka, as the club looks to revamp its midfield. The Gunners have made Declan Rice their top target, but saw an opening bid rejected by West Ham United last week. Despite being key players during Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge last season, Partey and Xhaka are set to leave the club in the coming weeks as Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu make major changes.
Partey joined Arsenal in a £45 million deal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and was a mainstay in midfield during the 2022-23 campaign. However, the Ghana international’s performances are said to have become a concern late in the season as the club surrendered a healthy lead at the top to Manchester City. Partey subsequently lost his starting place in the starting XI to January recruit Jorginho and ended the season being deployed as a makeshift right-back.
According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are prepared to cash in on Partey if they are able to bring in the right transfer targets. Two Serie A clubs are keeping tabs on his situation with Arsenal ready to sell for the right offer.
In addition to Rice, Moises Caicedo has been strongly linked with a summer move to the Emirates after Arsenal saw two bids for the Ecuadorian rejected during the January transfer window. Recent reports, however, have suggested that the north London side have cooled their interest with Caicedo reportedly set to join Chelsea.
Xhaka is also expected to leave and join Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £13 million. With both Xhaka and Partey set to depart, Arsenal will need to bring in new midfielders to replace them.
