Mauricio Pochettino provides injury update on Ben Chilwell and five other Chelsea stars
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino has provided an injury update on Ben Chilwell and five other stars ahead of Saturday’s trip to Burnley.
England international Chilwell is set to miss at least eight weeks with a hamstring problem, according to reports.
The 26-year-old left-back picked up the injury in the Carabao Cup win over Brighton and missed Chelsea’s west London derby victory against Fulham.
Chilwell Injury Update
Pochettino has now responded to reports that Chilwell will miss at least the next eight weeks by insisting that there is still no timescale on his potential return.
‘It is difficult, I am not a doctor,’ the Argentine said on Friday. ‘It is about judging day-by-day, we cannot say the period he will be out.’
Reece James Update
There was more of a positive update on right-back Reece James, who looks set to return against Arsenal after the upcoming international break.
‘He was training with the group,’ Pochettino added. ‘It is a shame he is banned for tomorrow but we are really happy with the way he is recovering.
‘We hope that after the international break he will be available… sorry, sorry, he is available, but suspended.’
Updates on Other Players
Pochettino also provides updates on Moises Caicedo, Mykhailo Mudryk, Carney Chukwuemeka and Romeo Lavia.
‘[Caicdeo and Mudryk are] both in the squad, we will decide later whether they have a chance for the start,’ Pochettino said.
‘[Chukwuemeka] was close to joining us last week.
‘This week he has trained well, I still have not decided, I need to check with the medical staff as I’m straight from the training pitch and 30 minutes late to the press conference, I am sorry for that.
‘[Lavia] is still not running. After the international break he is not going to be ready.’
Conclusion
Chelsea face a tough run of fixtures in the coming weeks and Pochettino will be hoping that his players can make a swift recovery from their respective injuries. The Blues will be looking to make it three wins in a row when they travel to Burnley on Saturday.
